Preventive dentistry — the small visits that prevent big bills

Check-ups, scaling, fluoride and X-rays. This is the cheapest dentistry there is, because it catches problems while they are still small enough to fix simply.

A check-up is a gentle look at your teeth, gums and mouth — no drilling, no surprises. If you have not seen a dentist in years, that is completely normal here, and there is no lecture waiting for you. You will leave knowing exactly what needs doing, what can wait, and what it will cost.

Scaling & Polishing

Clean teeth, healthy gums and fresher breath — the visit most patients should have every six to twelve months.

Brushing cannot remove hardened tartar, and tartar is what makes gums bleed and breath smell. Scaling lifts it away with a fine vibrating tip and a gentle water spray, then we polish the surface so staining has less to cling to. Patients describe it as a tickle rather than pain — and your mouth feels noticeably lighter afterwards.

Fluoride Treatment

A quick protective coating that makes enamel harder for decay to attack.

Fluoride varnish is painted onto the teeth in a couple of minutes and sets on contact, strengthening the enamel where decay is most likely to start. It is especially useful for children, for anyone with a lot of existing fillings, and for exposed roots that feel sensitive. There is no drilling and nothing to sit through.

What's included

  • Fluoride varnish applied to the teeth in the clinic

Good to know

You can eat and drink soon afterwards, but we will ask you to skip very hot drinks and hard brushing until the next morning so the varnish stays where it is needed.

Dental X-ray

Seeing what the eye cannot — decay between teeth, roots, and where a wisdom tooth is sitting.

An X-ray shows the parts of your mouth that no one can see from the outside: decay hiding between two teeth, the shape and length of a root, or a wisdom tooth sitting at an awkward angle. We only take one when it will actually change what we do, and the dose from a digital dental X-ray is very small. We will show you the image on screen and explain it.

What's included

  • Digital X-ray — a single tooth, a section, or a full-mouth view as needed
  • The image reviewed with you on screen, explained in plain English
  • Taken only when it is clinically useful, not as a routine add-on

Good to know

If you are pregnant, or think you might be, tell us before we start. In most cases we will postpone the X-ray unless you are in pain or there is an urgent problem.

If you have recent X-rays from another clinic, bring them along — we may not need to take new ones.

Restorative dentistry — repairing a tooth instead of losing it

Fillings, root canal treatment, crowns and dentures. The aim is always the same: keep your own tooth if we can, and make what replaces it look and feel natural.

Composite Fillings

A tooth-coloured repair for a cavity — finished so neatly that most people cannot spot it.

A composite filling cleans out the decay and rebuilds the tooth with a tooth-coloured material that is matched to your enamel. The area is numbed first, so what you feel is pressure and vibration rather than pain, and a small filling is usually finished in one sitting. If you have been putting off a filling because of a bad memory from childhood, this is a very different experience.

Root Canal Treatment

The treatment that stops the pain and saves the tooth — usually no more uncomfortable than a filling.

A root canal sounds frightening, but it is the treatment that stops the pain. The tooth is numbed first, so the appointment is usually no more painful than a filling — most patients tell us the relief afterwards is the memorable part. It also keeps your own tooth, which is almost always better than removing it.

Good to know

Crowns & Bridges

A cap for a tooth too weak to hold a filling, or a bridge to fill the gap a missing tooth left behind.

A crown covers a tooth that has cracked, broken or been weakened by a large old filling, holding it together and letting you chew normally again. A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the teeth on either side. Both are made from a mould of your own mouth, so they sit properly rather than feeling like a foreign object.

Good to know

Cosmetic & orthodontic — straightening and brightening

Braces, clear aligners, retainers and whitening. We will show you what is realistic for your teeth before you commit to anything, because an honest estimate beats a sales pitch.

Braces — Metal & Ceramic

For crowded or uneven teeth. Metal brackets are the most affordable; ceramic brackets are far less noticeable.

Braces straighten teeth that are crowded, spaced out, or not meeting properly when you bite. Metal brackets keep the cost down, while ceramic brackets blend closer to the colour of your teeth — both work the same way, and both need regular visits for adjustments. At your consultation you will get a clear idea of what your case involves, how long it is likely to take and what it will cost, before you decide anything.

Good to know

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are a series of custom-made transparent trays that you change at home, moving your teeth a little at a time. Because they come out to eat and to brush, most people can keep them discreet at work or in meetings. They suit mild to moderate crowding and spacing, and your consultation will tell you honestly whether aligners or braces will give you the better result.

Good to know

Aligners only work while they are in your mouth. You will be asked to wear them for most of the day and night, taking them out to eat, drink anything hot and brush.

Keep the previous trays and your case — losing one is the main way a plan gets delayed.

Retainers

The quiet step that keeps your straightened teeth straight.

Teeth drift back over time, which is why every braces or aligner plan ends with retainers. A fixed wire behind the teeth, or a removable clear retainer, holds everything where it now belongs — and it is a much simpler thing to deal with now than straightening the same teeth a second time later. We make yours from a fresh mould taken the day your treatment finishes.

Good to know

Teeth Whitening

Dentist-supervised whitening for coffee, tea and smoking stains — with honest expectations set first.

Whitening lifts the stains that a polish cannot shift, using a gel that is strong enough to work but applied under supervision. We check your gums and any fillings first, because whitening does not change the colour of fillings, crowns or veneers — if those are part of your smile, we will explain how that will look. You will get a realistic picture of the change to expect before you pay for anything.

Good to know

Extractions — removing a tooth without the drama

Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved, and a baby tooth sometimes refuses to fall out on its own. Both are routine here, and both are done gently.

Tooth Extraction

A decayed, broken or loose tooth taken out comfortably — usually in minutes.

When a tooth is too damaged to repair, or a baby tooth is blocking the adult tooth behind it, removing it is often the kindest option. The area is numbed completely before anything begins, and we test that you can feel nothing before we start. Most simple extractions are over in a few minutes — the part that takes longest is making sure you are comfortable.

Good to know

Wisdom Tooth Surgery

For wisdom teeth with no room to come through — the cause of a lot of swollen, throbbing nights.

Wisdom teeth cause trouble when there is not enough space for them: they push against the tooth in front, or the gum over them becomes infected and swollen. We take an X-ray to see how the root sits, explain honestly what removal involves, then remove it under local anaesthetic. Many patients tell us afterwards that the extraction itself took only a few minutes, and that the waiting was the worst part.

Good to know

A child who has one good experience will come back without fear. That is why we keep children's visits short and explain everything before we do it.

Kids' Dentistry

Children's appointments are kept short, friendly and unhurried. We show them what each instrument does before we use it, let them hold the mirror, and stop the moment we can see they have had enough — there is always another day. Baby teeth matter more than people think: they hold the space for the adult teeth, so looking after them early saves a lot of trouble later.
